Bluepoint Wind Presents to CUNY Bridges to Offshore Wind

Last week, Bluepoint Wind QHSE Manager Tom Cassidy, CSP, CMIOSH spoke to students in The City University of New York’s (CUNY) Bridges to Offshore Wind program to share information about maritime careers, opportunities in the offshore wind industry, and his journey to offshore wind.

Prior to his career in the commercial maritime industry, Tom served in the UK Royal Navy for 8 years. He then joined the industry as a Deckhand, working his way up to gaining his Master’s license. After working on Offshore Wind Turbine Generator construction vessels, Tom moved into various offshore wind construction project roles in Europe and the US. When asked why he chose to work in offshore wind, Tom said, “Working in offshore wind involves overcoming unique engineering, logistics, and environmental challenges, requiring a diverse workforce, from marine crew, engineers, and technicians to project managers and logistics experts.”

Highlighting the unique and rewarding career opportunities in our industry and the importance of training programs offered by institutions like CUNY’s Kingsborough Community College is key in preparing the workforce for projects coming to the NY Bight and beyond.
