Bluepoint Wind CEO John Dempsey Honored at Trailblazers: Clean Energy Awards Ceremony

New York, NY – Offshore wind project Bluepoint Wind today announced that CEO John Dempsey was honored at the inaugural Trailblazers: Clean Energy Awards ceremony, presented by City & State NY. The event recognizes organizations and individuals that have contributed to the creation of innovative clean energy technologies, led policy advocacy, and promoted economic development in New York’s renewable energy sector.

“Bluepoint Wind prioritizes a clean energy future through development that is sustainable and environmentally responsible, with our communities’ unique needs positioned at the forefront of our mission,” said John Dempsey, CEO of Bluepoint Wind. “I am honored to receive this award as a testament to the determination and hard work of our entire team in shaping a greener future.”

Under Dempsey’s leadership, Bluepoint Wind has become a key player in the region’s offshore wind ventures and clean energy industry. Dempsey was recognized for advancing and overseeing all technical, commercial, and permitting aspects of the development of Bluepoint Wind on behalf of the project’s sponsors, international offshore wind energy company Ocean Winds, and New York-based Global Infrastructure Partners.

Before joining Bluepoint Wind, Dempsey led PSEG’s offshore wind transmission development strategies for five years. Dempsey also spent eight years at Exelon, with a focus on renewable energy projects.

The event, which was held at HK Hall, featured keynote speakers Andrew Kessler, President of NY Green Bank; Sandy Nurse, NYC Council Member – Committee on Environmental Protection, Resiliency, & Waterfronts; and Rich Kassel of AJW, Inc., who discussed the future of clean energy in the state and beyond. Honorees will be profiled in a special issue of City & State Magazine.

Together, these companies have a successful track record of over 50 years of experience in the development, financing, construction and operation of renewables projects, including more than 15 years on offshore wind projects. Bluepoint Wind plans to build an offshore wind farm within its ocean lease area located 38 nautical miles (nm) off the coast of New York and 53 nm off the coast of New Jersey. At full capacity, this wind farm will be able to generate 1.7 gigawatts (GW) of clean wind energy – powering up to 900,000 homes and helping NY and NJ meet their ambitious carbon emissions reduction goals.
